Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): 16th Place - Johnston ($4,795)

Level 24 (Blinds 15,000/30,000/5,000)

Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 15
Chip Average: 1,430,000 (48 big blinds)

16th Place - Dave Johnston ($4,795)
Between Friday and Saturday, there were 420 entrants into this Big Stax 1100.

But, dear blogger, doesn't the total number of entries say 428?

You're absolutely right. 8 people took advantage of the fact that registration didn't close until the start of play today and purchased a ticket this morning.

Dave Johnston was one of those players.

Some of those eight players were ones who bought tickets into Flights 1A or 1B and failed to bag chips, but Johnston just showed up this morning for the first time, fired one late bullet and turned it into 300% profit.

We apologize profusely for cursing him. He was eliminated in 16th place literally within 60 seconds of being asked whether his first bullet was this morning. But kudos to him for ignoring the first 15 levels of play and turning his 10-big blind stack into a spot at the final two tables.

The only other remaining player who bought in this morning is Richard Seymour, who arrived with about 4 levels remaining in play last night and decided to give it one more go this morning after his brother bagged chips.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): 17th Place - Lillis ($4,795)

Level 24 (Blinds 15,000/30,000/5,000)

Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 16
Chip Average: 1,340,000 (45 big blinds)

17th Place - James Lillis ($4,795)
Coming back from the last break, James Lillis was the shortest stack left in the room, and it took him less than 10 minutes to get that short stack into the middle of the table.

Sitting in the hijack seat, he shoved all-in for about 350,000 and was immediately called by Christian Harder in the cutoff seat.

Harder: A Q       Lillis: K♣ J♠

Flop: Q♣ 6♣ 6♠
Turn: 3♣
River: 6

Lillis was unable to pair either of his hole cards or make a flush on the river while Harder made a full house. Lillis goes home in 17th place.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Chip Updates At Final Level

Level 24 (Blinds 15,000/30,000/5,000)

Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 17
Chip Average: 1,260,000 (42 big blinds)

Players are currently on a 10-minute break (during which the orange 1,000 chips were removed from play) and will return to play one more level before wrapping up for the night.

If they reach the final table before the end of this level, play would end then, but that seems unlikely with the rate of play over the past 40 minutes or so.

Only one player has been eliminated since players reached the final 2 tables, and Joe Elia's chips merely padded the already huge stack of Travis Greenawalt. Greenawalt was the early chip leader today, but was down around 500,000 for an hour or two before scoring a large percentage of the past 10-15 knockouts in the room.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Chip Counts After a Double Up

Level 23 (Blinds 12,000/24,000/4,000)

Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 18
Chip Average: 1,189,000 (50 big blinds)

Yaser Al-Keliddar
While counting the chips at the tables, Yaser Al-Keliddar was pushing all-in and getting a call from James Lillis.

Al-Keliddar: A 7      Lillis: 10♣ 10♠

Flop: A J 8
Turn: 6
River: 3

He paired his Ace on the flop and was lucky his opponent didn't have any diamonds as the board ran out all sorts of red.

Al-Keliddar was the shortest stack in the room before that double up, but now he's in much better shape.

Seat Table 45 Chips
1 James Lillis 300,000
2 Christian Harder 800,000

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Final 2 Tables

Level 23 (Blinds 12,000/24,000/4,000)

Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 18
Chip Average: 1,189,000 (50 big blinds)

Well, the theme of the day has been knockouts coming in bunches.

It took forever to get from 50 down to 47, but then the field dropped from 47 to 44 in roughly 30 seconds.

27 to 22 took 12 minutes, but then play hovered at 22 for about half an hour before another outburst of knockouts sent the field to 18 and the final 2 tables.

Aaron Overton and Kane Kalas were the latest victims of the madness, seen leaving for the cages in close pursuit of Nancy Martin and Igor Rabinovich.

These remaining players are guaranteed at least $3,288:

Seat Table 45 Table 46
1 James Lillis Richard Seymour
2 Christian Harder Steven Sarmiento
3 Ryan Pochedly Joe Elia
4 John Alexander Travis Greenawalt
5 Tom Maguire Joe Galazzo
6 Dave Johnston Steve Nacht

9 Ideal Morina John Muldoon

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Muldoon KOs Rabinovich

Level 23 (Blinds 12,000/24,000/4,000)

Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 20
Chip Average: 1,070,000 (45 big blinds)

John Muldoon
Igor Rabinovich was down to his final 41,000 chips and shoved from cutoff position.

Joe Galazzo and John Muldoon both made the called and checked all the way to the river, when Muldoon bet Galazzo out of the hand.

"Hope you know what you're doing here," said Galazzo.

Muldoon hit broadway on the river, giving him the stone cold nuts. Safe to say he knew what he was doing.

Moments later, the poker room got a lot less lovely when Nancy Martin was eliminated in 21st place.

With those 2 knockouts, the average chip stack has now eclipsed the 1,000,000 mark.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Killing Spree

Level 23 (Blinds 12,000/24,000/4,000)

Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 22
Chip Average: 973,000 (41 big blinds)

In some video games, eliminating 5 opponents in a short period of time is considered a killing spree.

Well, five players bit the dust in a span of 12 minutes, leaving us with just 22 at the tables.

Parx's poker room ambassador (Matt Glantz) was eliminated in 25th place, just barely beating James Kaplan and Milos Scekic to the cages.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Nacht Doubles; Kaplan Crushed

Level 23 (Blinds 12,000/24,000/4,000)

Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 25
Chip Average: 856,000 (36 big blinds)

Steve Nacht
After Kane Kalas raised to 51,000 in early position and James Kaplan called from the cutoff seat, Steve Nacht found "A good hand to wake up to" and shoved all-in for 693,000.

Kalas folded, but Kaplan wrestled with the decision.

"Do you have Ace-Jack? Because I can beat Ace-Jack."

Kaplan made the call with about 15,000 more chips than Nacht.

Nacht: A♠ A      Kaplan: A♣ Q♠

Flop: 10♣ 7 5
Turn: J♣
River: 8♠

Kaplan picked up a gutshot broadway draw on the turn, but it wasn't meant to be.

Nacht doubled up to 1.45 million chips while Kaplan was left with next to nothing. He did triple up on the following hand and is still seated at the table, though.

That's more than Reggie Lopez and Zach Daly can claim, as they were eliminated in 26th and 27th place, respectively.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): 28th-36th Places ($2,786)

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Oboodi Sends It To Final Three Tables

Level 22 (Blinds 10,000/20,000/3,000)

Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 27
Chip Average: 793,000 (40 big blinds)

Brian Oboodi was just eliminated from Table 48.

There has been a full redraw for the final 3 tables. Once players are finished shuffling around, the seating assignments will be posted.

We'll also provide a full chip update in the break coming up in 4 minutes.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Sarmiento Slays Siegel

Level 22 (Blinds 10,000/20,000/3,000)

Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 28
Chip Average: 764,000 (38 big blinds)

Steven Sarmiento
Steven Sarmiento was already one of the biggest stacks in the room before taking the final 184,000 away from Marvin Siegel.

Sarmiento limped into the hand from cutoff position before Siegel pushed all-in from the button. Action folded back around to Sarmiento who made the call.

Sarmiento: K 10       Siegel: A 6♠

Flop: 10♠ 9 3
Turn: 3♠
River: 9♠

With the elimination, players are now one spot away from the final 3 tables and another pay jump. They are also 5 minutes away from a 10-minute break at the end of this level.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Real Poker

Level 22 (Blinds 10,000/20,000/3,000)

Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 32
Chip Average: 669,000 (33 big blinds)

Ideal Morina
Two of the biggest stacks in the room just went head to head at Table 47.

Before the flop, Ideal Morina raised to 109,000 and got a call from Daniel Woolson.

Flop: 8 6♣ 2♠

Woolson was first to act and checked his option, allowing Morina to lead out for 123,000. Woolson raised to 260,000, and then the tank was on.

Morina sat in silence for 5 minutes before someone at the table asked for a clock. The tournament supervisor gave him another minute and 10 seconds, and as he was counting off the final 10 seconds, Morina announced a re-raise.

He pushed another 400,000 chips into the pot. Woolson wasted no time in folding.

Morina flipped over A J to reveal a ballsy bluff.

"I guess we're really playing poker now," said James Lillis.

Morina now has 1.5 million chips. His 49ers aren't doing much of anything in this Sunday night game, though.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Elia Triples Up

Level 22 (Blinds 10,000/20,000/3,000)

Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 33
Chip Average: 648,000 (32 big blinds)

Joe Elia
After Marvin Siegel raised to 50,000 from UTG+1, Joe Elia pushed all-in for his final 185,000.

Another player in cutoff position (whose name we'll get after he's done fuming over this hand) made the call, as did Siegel.

Flop: K 8 7

Siegel checked and his opponent pushed all-in, getting Siegel out of the hand.

Elia: A 10      Cutoff: Ax Ax

"I need runner-runner," said Elia.

Turn: J♠
River: Q

Even though Elia announced that he needed the runners, his opponent didn't initially see the broadway straight and celebrated the hand, but his jubilation was short-lived as Elia won the pot of nearly 600,000 chips.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Johnston Doubles Through Lillis

Level 22 (Blinds 10,000/20,000/3,000)

Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 33
Chip Average: 648,000 (32 big blinds)

Dave Johnston
Facing a moderate raise from James Lillis seated UTG+1, Dave Johnston pushed all-in from UTG+2 and got a call.

Johnston: Q♠ Q♣     Lillis: A Q

Flop: 9♠ 6 3♠
Turn: J♠
River: 5♠

Not that he needed it, but Johnston made a flush on the river to win the hand and double up to over 500,000.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): 37th-44th Places ($2,375)

Level 22 (Blinds 10,000/20,000/3,000)

Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 36
Chip Average: 594,000 (30 big blinds)

The following players have cashed in the event for $2,375:

37. Alex Rocha (New York)
38. Jack Duong (South Plainsfield, NJ)
39. Rodney Seymour (Marietta, GA)
40. Joseph Digiorgio (Philadelphia, PA)
41. Jeff Gross (Wall, NJ)
42. Ibra Ibrahimovic (Brooklyn, NY)
43. Ernie Gozman (Newtown, PA)
44. Kevin Grabel (Southampton, PA)

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Pay Jump

Level 22 (Blinds 10,000/20,000/3,000)

Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 36
Chip Average: 594,000 (30 big blinds)

It only took two hands after the dinner break for the 37th-place player to be eliminated.

Alex Rocha's stack was crushed by Ideal Morina right before the dinner break. He came back to less than 2 big blinds, and got it all-in in a hurry with A-8 against Andrew Cimpan's A-J.

He was unable to double up and became the last player to earn $2,375. The rest are guaranteed at least $2,786.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Chip Leaders At Dinner Break

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Alexander Knocks Out Duong

Level 22 (Blinds 10,000/20,000/3,000)
Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 37
Chip Average: 578,000 (29 big blinds)

John Alexander
37 players will be going to dinner break.

It was almost 38, but John Alexander knocked out Jack Duong about 5 minutes before the break.

Joe Galazzo raised to 32,000 pre-flop from hijack position and got a call from Alexander in cutoff position before Duong shoved all-in for roughly 250,000 from the small blind.

Galazzo thought for a while before folding. Alexander also thought for a little while, but decided to gamble.

Alexander: 9♣ 9       Duong: A Q♣

Flop: J 8♠ 2
Turn: 5♣
River: 4♠

The Nines held up, and Alexander goes to dinner as one of the chip leader (a full list of leaders will be provided momentarily).

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Morina Wins From Behind

Level 21 (Blinds 8,000/16,000/2,000)
Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 39
Chip Average: 549,000 (34 big blinds)

Ideal Morina
Ideal Morina raised to 36,000 from UTG+2 and was re-popped to 110,000 by Andrew Cimpan in the small blind. He toiled with the decision for awhile, counting out his chips multiple times before announcing the call.

Morina: 10 10      Cimpan: K K♠

Flop: 10♠ 9 4♣
Turn: 5♣
River: J

Morina made his set of 10's in the window and was able to avoid Kings the rest of the way.

Cimpan remains in the tournament with about 200,000 chips while Morina is now within 100k of the chip average.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): One Lady Cashes

Level 21 (Blinds 8,000/16,000/2,000)
Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 43
Chip Average: 500,000 (31 big blinds)

Nancy Martin
44 players will make money in this event, but only one of them is of the female variety.

A couple levels ago, Nancy Martin was saying how much difficulty she was having focusing on the task at hand.

While others do this poker thing as their only source of income, Nancy is also a realtor, and was frantically trying to sell a house on her phone for the first few hours of play.

Not only did she finalize the sale, but she's supplementing that commission by being the only woman to cash in this event. Time will tell how much extra income she gets this weekend.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): In the Money!

Level 21 (Blinds 8,000/16,000/2,000)
Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 44
Chip Average: 486,000 (30 big blinds)

It took nearly 90 minutes for the field to drop from 50 to 47, but it went from 47 to 44 in the blink of an eye.

Alan Kraut was eliminated in 45th place when his K-Q lost to a set of 6's.

The remaining players are guaranteed at least $2,375 for lasting this long, but they would each love the $111,974 first-place prize.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Seymour Makes It 46

Level 20 (Blinds 6,000/12,000/2,000)
Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 45
Chip Average: 476,000 (40 big blinds)

Richard Seymour
Richard Seymour has been dominating Table 49 all day, and just eliminated another opponent to send the field to 46 players.

Sitting in the small blind and facing a moderate raise from the button, Seymour re-raised enough to put his opponent all-in. Both players were holding diamonds, but Seymour's suited connectors turned into a straight when his J-10 paired nicely with a flop of Q-9-8.

Seymour started the day with 50,000 chips, but is now up over 800,000.

Moments later, another player was eliminated on another table, putting us on the bubble.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Oboodi Cripples Grabel

Level 20 (Blinds 6,000/12,000/2,000)
Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 47
Chip Average: 455,000 (38 big blinds)

Bobby Oboodi
On Table 45, Kevin Grabel raised to 25,000 from UTG+1 and was immediately re-raised to 62,000 by Bobby Oboodi seated UTG+2. Action folded back around to Grabel who made the call.

Both players checked the 10♣ 9♠ 2♣ on the flop, bringing out the 9♣ on the turn.

Grabel led out for 69,000 and Oboodi made the call.

River: 8

Grabel checked and Oboodi bet enough to put Grabel all-in. Grabel was down to his final 160,000 chips and had a tough decision to make. After not moving for about 45 seconds, he turned around and looked at the monitor - likely checking to see how many eliminations he is from the money.

We'll never know what cards he had. Maybe an hour from now when players are in the money he makes the call, but he wasn't willing to go home empty-handed.

Meanwhile, Oboodi is up well over 800,000 chips now.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Current Chip Leaders

Level 20 (Blinds 6,000/12,000/2,000)
Total Entries: 428

Joe "Mush" Galazzo - 1,300,000

Travis Greenawalt - 1,000,000
Alex Rocha - 1,000,000
Reggie Lopez - 850,000
Joe Gola - 700,000
John Alexander - 700,000
Bobby Oboodi - 700,000

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Break Number Two

Level 20 (Blinds 6,000/12,000/2,000)
Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 48
Chip Average: 446,000 (37 big blinds)

Very little happened in the final 10 minutes of Level 19 with the bubble looming, and players are currently on a 15-minute break.

A survey of stacks in the room reveals 9 players at or above 700,000 chips. When we confirm the names, we'll post those chip leaders, then see if they can big-stack bully their way through the conservative play in advance of the bubble.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Ibrahimovic Survives

Level 19 (Blinds 5,000/10,000/1,000)
Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 48
Chip Average: 446,000 (44 big blinds)

Ibra Ibrahimovic
Facing a raise to 27,000 from Kevin Grabel sitting under the gun, Ibra Ibrahimovic made the call from the small blind.

Both players checked the 8 7 4♣ flop, bringing out the 2♣ on the turn.

Ibrahimovic checked, allowing Grabel to put out a bet of 100,000. Ibrahimovic only had 107,000 chips in front of him and made the call.

Ibrahimovic: A 7 (middle pair, flush draw)
Grabel: 6♠ 4♠ (smaller pair, gutshot straight draw)

River: 3♠

Ibrahimovic doubled up, but Grabel is still in pretty good shape for someone who didn't even buy into the tournament until this morning.

Players are 4 eliminations from the money, meaning there's an awful lot of meandering around as players try to survey who is most likely to get eliminated next.

Big Stax 1100 (Day 2): Approaching the Bubble

Level 19 (Blinds 5,000/10,000/1,000)
Total Entries: 428
Players Remaining: 50
Chip Average: 428,000 (43 big blinds)

A few of the shortest stacks in the room were eliminated over the past 10 minutes, leaving us with just 50 players remaining.

44 players will get paid in this tournament, so we are 5 eliminations from the bubble. Doubtful we'll get there before the next break (27 minutes away), but you never know.

Jack Duong
On back-to-back hands on Table 51, Jack Duong chipped up through James Kaplan.

On the first hand, Duong was sitting under the gun and raised to 17,000, getting a call from Kaplan in the small blind and Jeff Gross in the big blind.

The three players saw a flop of J♠ 10♣ 2. Duong bet 25,000 after the blinds checked. Kaplan made the call and Gross folded.

Both players checked the 8♣ on the turn, bringing the 2♣ on the river.

Kaplan bet 35,000 from the small blind and Duong raised to 75,000. Kaplan made the call with 10♠ 8♠, but Duong had a better two pair with A♠ A♣.

On the following hand, Kaplan raised to 16,000 pre-flop from the button and Duong made the call from the big blind.

Duong checked the 4♠ 3♠ 2 flop, allowing Kaplan to bet 30,000 before raising to 75,000, which Kaplan called.

Duong threw out a huge bet after the 2♣ on the turn, causing Kaplan to fold.

All told, Duong took 208,000 from Kaplan in the two hands.
